ReMix Science and Care Launches Inaugural Microgrant Program to Expand Access to STEM and Healthcare Opportunities
The Pittsburgh-based nonprofit is now accepting applications to help students and early-career professionals overcome financial barriers to education and career advancement.
PITTSBURGH, PA | September 25, 2026 — ReMix Science and Care (RMSC) has officially launched its inaugural microgrant program, providing financial assistance to students and early-career professionals pursuing opportunities in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and healthcare.
Beginning September 25, eligible applicants throughout the Greater Pittsburgh area can request support for educational expenses, career preparation, and professional development.
The launch marks a major milestone for ReMix, translating its commitment to educational equity into direct financial support for individuals facing barriers to academic and professional success.
Addressing Financial Barriers Beyond Tuition
While scholarships and traditional financial aid often focus on tuition, students pursuing STEM and healthcare careers face additional expenses that can limit their opportunities.
Professional examinations, laboratory supplies, conference registration, licensing fees, and application costs can quickly become financial obstacles, particularly for students from low-income and historically underserved communities.
ReMix's microgrant program addresses these often-overlooked needs through flexible, targeted assistance. Rather than limiting support to a single category, the program recognizes that financial challenges vary across educational and career pathways.
Flexible Funding for Diverse Educational Needs
The program supports a broad range of eligible expenses, including:
Academic resources
Textbooks, laboratory supplies, equipment, and educational materials.Examinations and applications
Standardized testing, exam preparation, licensing fees, and academic or professional applications.Professional development
Conference registration, travel, workshops, and other educational opportunities.Clinical and research experiences
Expenses related to clinical placements, laboratory training, and research opportunities.Career readiness
Professional attire and essential resources for interviews, internships, and clinical experiences.
Funding amounts are determined on a case-by-case basis, considering each applicant's circumstances, demonstrated financial need, available resources, and alignment with ReMix's mission.
Recognizing that students may face multiple financial challenges, ReMix allows individuals to submit separate applications for distinct eligible needs. While first-time applicants may receive priority, all requests are reviewed individually.
Supporting Students at Every Stage
The microgrant program serves eligible individuals throughout the Greater Pittsburgh area, from high school students exploring STEM and healthcare pathways to college students, graduate students, and early-career professionals.
By supporting individuals across different educational stages, ReMix aims to ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent students from accessing essential resources or pursuing valuable professional opportunities.
The program reflects the organization's broader belief that educational equity requires more than access to institutions. It also requires the resources, guidance, and support necessary to succeed.
Made Possible Through Community Investment
The microgrant program was made possible in significant part through a $15,000 RISE HIGH Grant awarded by Neighborhood Allies in July 2026.
This investment supported the program's development and implementation, helping ReMix establish the infrastructure needed to provide targeted financial assistance.
ReMix extends its appreciation to Neighborhood Allies for supporting emerging community-based organizations and investing in initiatives that address educational and economic inequities throughout Pittsburgh.
As the program grows, ReMix aims to expand its reach through continued fundraising, philanthropic support, and partnerships with organizations committed to educational equity.
Turning Mission Into Meaningful Impact
Founded in August 2025, ReMix Science and Care works to reduce financial and systemic barriers for individuals pursuing STEM and healthcare careers.
The launch of its first direct-assistance program represents an important step toward that mission.
Whether helping cover an examination fee, providing essential laboratory equipment, or supporting participation in a professional conference, each microgrant has the potential to help an individual pursue an opportunity that might otherwise remain out of reach.
Through financial assistance, mentorship development, and community partnerships, ReMix continues building pathways toward greater educational and professional opportunity.
